We are designers, gardeners, and conservationists who believe gardens can be places of connection - between people and the living world around them.
We create landscapes shaped by the places they inhabit, by their soil and seasons, their plants and insects, their histories and the people who spend time in them.
Inspired by the Canadian landscape and curious about the living world wherever we encounter it, we see gardens as small pieces of a much larger whole.
Our work is about making beautiful places while making room for more life to exist within them.
Gardens as art + ecosystems.
Made with reverence for the living world.
Our Services
-
We design gardens as living ecosystems, bringing together beauty and biodiversity. Each project begins with a consultation to understand your space, how you want to use it, and what makes the site unique. We assess the conditions, including soil, light, moisture, and existing vegetation, so we can choose plants that are well suited to your property and create a garden that thrives over time.
From there, we create a unique design with planting compositions using native and non-invasive species, carefully considered for colour, texture, form, seasonal interest, and ecological value.
We then bring the design to life through thoughtful plant sourcing and installation, giving you a garden that feels beautiful, intentional, and connected to its surroundings.
-
For those looking to replace a traditional lawn with a garden full of life, our mini meadows are densely planted with native species chosen for colour, texture, movement, and ecological value. Using smaller plants and plugs, we can create a greater diversity of plants in a compact space while keeping installation costs more accessible. Mini meadows do require consistent watering and care while they establish, but once the plants have filled in and the initial weeds have been managed, they become a lower-maintenance, richly layered garden that brings more life to your yard.
-
Ongoing, thoughtful care for established gardens, offered to a limited number of clients.
-
Thoughtful spring and fall garden cleanups that prepare your garden for the seasons ahead. From raking leaves and cutting back perennials to selective pruning and tidying garden beds, we care for your landscape while supporting its natural cycles and the life it sustains.
-
Seasonal planting brings an opportunity to play with colour, texture, and form throughout the year. We design distinctive container gardens and seasonal displays for residential and commercial spaces, creating compositions that compliment their surroundings while adding a sense of warmth and personality. From individual planters to larger displays for entrances, storefronts, patios, and gathering spaces, we handle the design, planting, installation, and ongoing care.
-
Give an at-risk native plant a place to grow. Through our Adopt an At-Risk Native Plant Project, we introduce carefully selected native plants that are rare, declining, or at risk into gardens where their growing conditions give them a good chance of success. Each plant is chosen with consideration for the site, including soil, moisture, light, and surrounding vegetation.
Plants are sourced from reputable nurseries and growers using legally propagated, nursery-grown material. Living Things does not collect protected plants from the wild.
Because these plants can have very specific growing requirements, success isn’t guaranteed. Our goal is to give them a thoughtful place in the landscape while helping build awareness, appreciation, and space for biodiversity.
Participating clients agree to treat these plants as long-term conservation plantings and to consult with Living Things before removing or relocating them.

We bring the same thoughtful, ecological approach indoors, creating vibrant plant spaces that connect people with the living world. From indoor garden design and plant selection to ongoing care and seasonal refreshes, we help homes and businesses thrive with beautiful, healthy plants.
